  • Member Competitions

Members with a handicap are able to take part in the frequent Medals and Competitions run by the club.
There is a small charge to enter a Medal and this covers the sweepstake and magic 2’s on the day. The winners in each handicap category can claim their prizes at the Pro Shop.
Any member who scores below the CSS for any Medal will have his handicap reduced for future play. Any score above the buffer zone [usually 2 points above the CSS score] results in a handicap increase of 0.1.

These usually take place on a Saturday from April until October but there are also mid week Medals, either on a Tuesday or a Wednesday. Certain Thursdays also have 9 hole medals played from the yellow tees.
The annual diary issued to members will show dates but the website Fixture Diary page shows more up to date details.
It is advisable to sign up for a Saturday Medal but for weekdays it is acceptable to turn up and play or book your tee time online.
Most Medals are played from the white tees but some are from the yellows. All scores are posted on the downstairs notice board and members who are registered with HowDidIDo will receive an email with the results.
One Medal each month is part of an annual Medal competition with the winners eligible for entry to the Medal Finals.
There are also a number of Optional Medals, played either on a Saturday or Sunday - see the website Fixture Diary Page for dates. The idea here is to allow members the flexibility to play either bounce games or take part in a medal on those dates rather than dedicate the whole day to medal play.

The Alistair MacDonald Trophy – a member and guest greensome

The Professional's Day Medal and the Greenkeepers' Medal are played as normal medals but the proceeds on these days are used to show the club's appreciation of these important members of the club's staff.
Fun competitions are also available, especially at the beginning and close of the golfing season. The Cha Cha Cha is for teams of 4 players, with 1 score counting at the first hole, 2 at the second and 3 at the third then back to 1 at the fourth, and so on. Bogey Competitions have a player scoring against a fixed score for each hole, depending on handicap.
